two numbers are in the ratio 3:4. if 5 is subtracted from their sum, the result is 37. what is the larger number?
-----------------
Their sum is 37+5 = 42.
----
3 (times something) + 4 (times something) = 42
7 (times something) = 42
something = 6
--------------
--> 3*6 = 18
and 4*6 = 24
