Question 814637: in a hostel it costs Rs.1800 to keep 50 children for 8 weeks. for what length of time did the cost of keeping 90 children amount to Rs.21060.
Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The key here is to first determine the cost of 1 child for 1 week.
Set x= cost of one child
w= number of weeks
w*x = 1800
8(50)x = 1800
400x = 1800
Divide each side by 400
x = 1800/400 = 4.5
So 1 child per week = 4.5
To solve for number of weeks Rs.21060 pays for,
Set y = number of weeks
y*4.5 = 21060
Divide each side by 4.5
y = 21060/4.5 = 4680
