Question 808133: There are 7 same sized cups filled with water which will be used for watering plants. Fred used 1/3 of each cup of water. Janice used 1/4 of each cup of water. Approximately how many cups of water remain?
Answer by JBarnum(2146) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
first make equivalent denominators
4 times 3 is 12
fred uses 4/12 of each cup
janice uses 3/12 of each cup
so together they use up 7/12 of each cup
leaving 5/12 of each cup unused
there are 7 cups so multiply 7 times the unused portion
= and
so 2.91666666666666666666... cups of water were not used...what a waste.
