Question 784976: A coffee shop owner blends gourmet coffee brand with a cheaper brand. The gourmet coffee sells for 9 dollars per pound. The cheaper brand sells for 3 dollars per pound. How much of each type should be mixed in order to have 20 pounds of coffee that is worth 7.50 per pound
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Price ---------------- quantity
Gourmet coffee $9.00 ---------------- x pounds
Cheap brand $3.00 ------ 20 - x pounds
Mixture $7.50 ---------------- 20
Total 20 pounds
9 x + 3 ( 20 - x ) = 150
9 x + 60 - 3 x = 150
9 x - 3 x = 150 - -60
6 x = 90
/ 6
x = 15 pounds $9.00 Gourmet coffee
5 pounds $3.00 Cheap brand
