In a simple case, say we have 6 cups of flour, we will have 2 cups of sugar (6/3=2). However, first you need to convert 2 1/4 to a simpler fraction by making it an improper fraction.
Note: its not 2 multiplied by 1/4 its 2 and a fourth
Now we must set up a proportion
Notice that the amount of flour divided by the amount of sugar is 3.
Multiply both sides by 4/9, this cancels the 9/4 on the right side
Multiply the values on the left side
Simplify the left side
Multiply both sides by x
Multiply both sides by 3/4
