When the cost price of rice decreases by 8% the customer is able to buy 4kg of rice more in Rs 1150. Find the previous cost price of rice?
:
Let x = original cost of rice (per kilo)
:
the discount price = .92x (8% reduction)
:
= no. of kilos that could be purchased originally
= no. of kilos purchased at reduced price
:
- = 4
multiply by .92x to clear the denominators, results
1150 - .92(1150) - .92x(4)
1150 - 1058 = 3.68x
92 = 3.68x
x = 92/3.68
x = 25 Rs per kilo was the original price
:
:
Find the discounted price to check this out: .92(25) = 23 Rs per kilo
Find actual no of kilos
1150/23 = 50 kilos
1150/25 = 46 kilos
-------------------
differs by: 4 kilos, confirms our solution
