If Claudia gives 1/4 of her share to Benny, Benny will have 14 more peas than Riley.
How many peas are there altogether?
:
Let x = the multiplier
then
4x = R's peas
3x = B's peas
8x = C's peas
and
15x = total number of peas
:

3x + *8x = 4x + 14
3x + 2x = 4x + 14
5x - 4x = 14
x = 14 is the multiplier
therefore
15(14) = 210 peas altogether
