In order to do this problem, you have to make a couple of assumptions. First, you must assume that all of the monkeys are either completely black or completely white -- no grey monkeys. Second, you must assume that all monkeys are either lean or fat -- no "pleasantly plump" monkeys.
Given all of that, if 40% of the monkeys are black, then 60% are white. Then, if 40% are white and fat, that leaves 20% that are white and lean. Knowing that 50% are lean but 20% are white and lean leaves 30% that are black and lean. Since 40% are black and 30% are black and lean, that leaves 10% that are black and fat. But there are 90 black and fat monkeys which represent 10% of the total, hence there are 900 monkeys altogether. Of the 900 monkeys, 60% are white. You do the rest of the arithmetic.
