A scale model of a train engine is 1 and three fourths (1 3/4) inches long. A real engine is 28 feet long. If a freight car on the model train is three eights (3/8) inch long, what is the actual size of the freight car on the real train?
A. 6 feet
B. 42 feet
C. 72 feet
D. 512 feet

A scale model of a train engine is 1 and three fourths (1 3/4) inches long. A real engine is 28 feet long. If a freight car on the model train is three eights (3/8) inch long, what is the actual size of the freight car on the real train?

Use a proportion:
x/(3/8) = 28 ft/(1 3/4)in
------
x = (3/8)(28/(7/4))
x = (3/8)(4/7)(28)
x = (3/8)16
x = 3*2
x = 6 ft.
