A board 28 feet long is cut into two pieces, and the lengths of the two pieces are in the ratio of 2 to 5. Find the lengths of the two pieces.

Since the board is cut into two parts:
Part #1 + Part #2 = 28 feet
x+x=28
The ratio is 2:5, so
2x+5x=28
7x=28
x=4
.
Part # 1=2(4)=8ft
Part # 2=5(4)=20ft
