Question 563043: There are 7 same-sized cups filled with water which will be used for watering plants. Fred used 1/3 of each cup of water. Janice used 1/4 of each cup of water. Approximately how many cups of water remain?

i drew 7 cups then split them into thirds. then shaded in 1/3. after that i made it into fourths by cutting the shaded piece in half. finally i counted the parts unshaded. that left me with 14 parts of the cups of water. so then since the cups were in fourths for every 4 parts that was one cup. so that left me with
3 2/4 cups of water
