The average (arithmetic mean) of the test scores of Mrs. Hilgarts's first period class of x Algebra 2 students is 74.
Total points = 74x
-------------------------------
The average of the test scores of Mrs. Hilgart's fifth period class of y Alegbra 2 students is 88.
Total points = 88y
--------------------------------
When the scores of both classes are combined, the average is 76. What is the value of x/y?
Total points is (x+y)76
-----
Equation:
points + points = total points
74x+88y = 76x+76y
2x = 12y
x/y = 6
