Question 503540: if a bookshelf is 36 inches wide, how many books each measuring 1 1/2 inches wide can be used to fill the shelf?
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1 1/2 = 1 + 1/2 = 2/2 + 1/2 = 3/2
So 1 1/2 = 3/2
Now divide 36 into 3/2 to get
(36)/(3/2) = (36/1)/(3/2) = (36/1)*(2/3) = (36*2)/(1*3) = 72/3 = 24
So you can fit 24 books.
