The ratio of two positive numbers is 6 to 5. If the difference between the two numbers is 8, what are the numbers?
------
Equations:
x/y = 6/5
x-y = 8
-----
x = y+8
---
Substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
(y+8)/y = 6/5
---
y+8 = (6/5)y
---
(1/5)y = 8
y = 40
----
Solve for "x":
x = y+8
x = 48
