The ratio of students to teachers is 40 to 3. How many teachers are there when there are 65 students?
----------------
40 to 3 is the same as 40x to 3x where 40x = # of students:
---
40x = 65
x = 13/8
-----
Then 3x = 3(13/8) = 39/8 is approximately 5 (approximate # of teachers)
