Question 373401: Two identical jars are filled with equal marbles. The marbles are colored red or white. The ratio of red to white marbles is 7:1 in Jar I and 9:1 in Jar II. If there are 90 white marbles all together, how many red marbles are in Jar II?
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
8 parts in I and 10 parts in II ___ 8x = 10y
"there are 90 white marbles all together" ___ x + y = 90 ___ x = 90 - y
substituting ___ 8(90 - y) = 10y
720 = 18y ___ 40 = y
9 * 40 = 360
