Question 344127: Suppose that you have a goal to drive two miles at an average rate of 60 miles per hour. During the first mile you travel at a rate of 30 mph. How fast would you need to travel during the second mile in order to reach your goal of 60 mph for the total two mile distance? (remember rate is found by taking distance divided by time.)
I just want to check my answer because it is an answer that I thought was too easy to get. i got 30 mph. But i don't know.

Answer by nyc_function(2741)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
To drive at an average speed of 60 miles per hour:

2 miles / 60 mph = 0.0333 hours (total time to make trip at average speed of 60 mph)

At 30 miles per hour for the first mile:
t = (1 mile/30 mph) = 0.0333 hours

That means you have 0.0333- 0.0333 hours to travel the last mile
Meaning you have no time left to drive the last mile.

There is no solution to this problem (or more precisely, you would have to travel infinitely fast).
