Answer by mukhopadhyay(490) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If the price of the commodity before the addition of VAT is x dollars,
x + 15%of x = 2817.50
=> x + .15x = 2817.50
=> 1.15x = 2817.50
=> x = 2817.50/1.15 = 2450
The price of the commodity before the addition of VAT is $2,450
