What are the numbers that have a ratio of 2:5?
:
Let x = the multiplier
Then the two numbers are 2x and 5x
:
An equation for the statement:
"If you add six to each number they have a ratio of 1:2.
=
Cross multiply
1(5x+6) = 2(2x+6)
5x + 6 = 4x + 12
5x - 4x = 12 - 6
x = 6 is the multiplier
then
2(6) = 12
and
5(6) = 30
:
12:30 are the numbers with a 2:5 ratio
