You can put this solution on YOUR website! >>How do you arrive at an answer when a math question is worded as follows?
1. 6 is ____________% of 20.
2. 10% of 20 is ____________.<<
I. Replace any given percent by a decimal by moving the decimal point two
places left and dropping the "%" symbol.
II. Replace the word "of" by the multiplication symbol " · ".
III. Replace the word "is" by an equal sign " = ".
IV. Replace the blank _____ by " x "
V. Solve the equation.
VI. If the blank has a "%" sign after it, change the answer to a
percent by moving the decimal point two places right.
>>1. 6 is ____________% of 20.
6 = x · 20
6 = x·20
6 = 20x
Divide both sides by 20
6/20 = 20x/20
.3 = x
Since there was a "%" after the blank, we change .3 to 30%.
>>2. 10% of 20 is ____________.<<
0.10 · 20 = x
(.10)(20) = x
2 = x

You can put this solution on YOUR website! The way I learned to solve this problem was to put
is % 6 %
__ = __ __ = ___ =30%
of 100 20 100
I put the 6 in the is spot, leave the percent blank cause you got to solve it, 20 in the of spot. Multiply 6 X 100 then divide by 20 and your answer is 30%.
is % 10%
__ =__ ____ =____ =2
of 100 20 100
I leave the is blank so you can solve it, put 20 in the of spot,10% in the percent spot. Then you multiply 10% by 20 then divide by 100 then you get the answer 2.
Let me know if you understand it that way. That is how I was taught to do the problem.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! When solving word problems, it is preferably easier to change unknown values to any letter, but I like "x" best!
1. 6 is ____% of 20.
Solution
Question becomes;
6 is x% of 20.
Next, we represent "is" with "=", "%" with "/100" and "of" with "X" i.e;
Next, we re-arrange properly, i.e;

Cross multiply:
Divide both sides by 20:

therefore, x = 30!
Recall the question;
6 = x% of 20
From solution, x = 30 so,
6 = 30% of 20
2. 10% of 20 is _______.
Solution
As before, replace dash with x;
10% of 20 is x.
Now represent values as before;

Recall Question;
10% of 20 is x
From solution, x=2 so,
10% of 20 is 2.
I only made it elaborate so it would be very explanatory. Hope it helped.
