Answer by Paul(988)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the adult ticket bve x
Let the childern ticket be y
total tickets sold = 50
x+y=50
solve for y
y=50-x (subsitution)

Cost for adults tickets = $5 so tickets sold for adults -->5x
Cost for childern tickets = $3 so tickets sold for childern = 3y
TOtal cost = $180

Equation:
5x+3y=180
Subsitute
5x+3(50-x)=180
5x+150-3x=180
2x=30
x=15

y=50-15
y=35

Hence, anout 15 adult tickets were sold and about 35 childern tickets were sold.
