This is a fraction conversion problem that just wants you to find equivalent fractions. If somebody cracks 4 out of 9 Easter eggs, then how many would they crack if they had 72? One way to do this is to cross multiply. I'm going to put in an "x" instead of the blank.
4/9=x/72
Cross multiplying means you actually multiply the values that are diagonal from each other. So this would you do 4 times 72 and 9 times x.
4(72)=9x
288=9x
When you get to a simple one step algebra problem like this, since 9 is being multiplied by x, all you do to solve it is the opposite, so divide both sides by 9:
288/9=9x/9
32=x
So your answer is 4/9=32/72
Another way to solve this is using a little logic. If 4/9= ?/72, then you think to yourself, "what does 9 multiply by to equal 72? Well, 9 times 8 is 72, so if you do 4 times 8, you get 32. There is your answer!

4/9 = x/72
Find x:
Multiply both sides of the equaion by 72 to clear the denominator on the right side;
72*(4/9) = 72*(x/72)
72*(4/9) = x
(72/9)*4 = x
8*4 = x
x = 32
So:
4/9 = 32/72
