Question 274576: If a cylinder that is 3 inch's in diameter and a cylinder that is 12 inch's in diameter and both have 4 feet of water, which cylinder would have more pressure at the bottom?
Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The pressure is the same, it's a factor of the depth of liquid only.
-------------
The force on the bottom is much greater in the larger cylinder, but the pressure is the same.
The larger cylinder's diameter is 4x, so the force is 16x.
But, the pressures are equal, the psi, pounds per square inch, or grams per square cm.
There are 16x as many many sq inches, the force exerted on each one is equal in both cylinders.
-----------
--> equal pressures
-----------
PS It's inches, not inch's.
