The population of Detroit, Michigan is estimated to be 2,735,000 by the year 2000. at an annual growth rate of -o.3%, what is the estimation for 2001?
annual growth rate of population is -o.3%
means the population decreases by 0.3 every 100 persons
which means as there are 27350 hundreds in 2,735,000 the population will decrease by 27350X0.3 = 8205.0 = 8205
Population in 2000 is 2,735,000 persons
It decreases by 8205 in one year from 2000
Therefore the population in 2100 is given by
2,735,000 - 8,205 = 2,72,679
Therefore the population in the year 2001 is 2,72,679
[Mathematics behind the problem:
growth rate is -o.3% annually which means the population decreases by 0.3 %
(notice the negative sign and hence decrease)
The present population is 2,735,000
Total decrease in population in one year is
(0.3/100)X 2,735,000 = 0.3 X 27,350 = 8,205
Therefore population the next year is
present population - the decrease in population = 2,735,000 - 8,205 = 2,72,679 ]
