If there are 5 more boys than girls, which of the following is the number of students in this class?
:
Let x = the multiplier
then
4x = no. of girls
5x = no. of boys
:
"there are 5 more boys than girls,"
5x = 4x + 5
5x - 4x = 5
x = 5 is the multiplier
then
4(5) = 20 girls
5(5) = 25 boys
total: 45 students
