Find one part of the total.
2:3 means there are 5 parts of $12000 of which 2 parts go to the brother and 3 parts go to the sister.
Total number of parts = 5
2/5 * 12000 = 2*2400 =4800
3/5 * 12000 = 3 * 2400 = 7200
