=7feet and (27/4)inches
=(7*12)+(27/4) inches
=84+(27/4)inches
=((4*84)+27)/4 inches
=(336+27)/4 inches
=363/4 inches

so total length of wood=363/4 inches

piece to be left with: 5 feet 11 5/16 inches
=(5*12)+(11 and 5/16)
=60+(11*16+5)/16
=60+(181/16)
=((16*60)+181)/16
=(960+181)/16
=1141/16 inches

now length to be cut off=total-piece
=(363/4)-(1141/16)

inches

convert this to feet by dividing by 12

approx 1.6 feet
[1foot and (119/192)inches]
