Question 186084: The question is, how would you compare how carlos spent his time on various activities over the weekend? Explain.
activity: number of hours:
sleeping 18
eating 2.5
recreation 8
talking on the phone 2
watching t.v. 6
doing chores or homework 2
other 9.5
I'm suppose to use ratio. Do I compare them all by the total number of hours or compare them with pairs like sleeping and talking on the phone?
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You can do it either way or both :)
One way would be to total up all the hours and then say "carlos spent x% of his time sleeping, y% eating, etc. The totla would 100% of his time.
You could also say things like carlos spent the same amount of time talkin gon the pohoine as he did doing homework. Or He spent 6/2 or 3 times as much time watching TV as doing homework. etc.
Both ways of parsing the data are valid.
The fact that you thought of both means you have a good idea of what is going on. Good for you!
