Roomates, Bill, Dan, and Ed went to the grocery store to do some shopping. They figure, based on how much of the time each one eats at their apartment, that Bill should pay 2/5 of the total bill, then Dan should pay 3/7 of the total bill, and Ed should pay the rest of the bill which was $138.00 How much Bill pay and how much Dan pay?
--------------------------------
Let the total bill be "x"
Equation:
(2/5)x + (3/7)x + 138 = x
-----
Multiply thru by 35 to get:
14x + 15x + 35*138 = 35x
6x = 35*138
x = 35*23
x = $805 (the total bill)
