Question 182344: Fred invested $350 in the stock market. The value of his investment increased by 25%, and then later decreased by 40%. How much did the investment decrease in value from the time he first invested?
Answer by tvandenberg(45)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Do it one step at a time...
The 25% increase:
$350*(1+25%)=$350*(1.25)=$437.50
The 40% decrease:
$437.50*(1-40%)=$437.50*(0.6)=$262.50
But, don't forget to answer the question! It decreased by:
$350-$262.50=
$87.50 (or 25%)
