Question 176777: Dear Denis I'm requesting your assistance with this problem. I know the solution, but i can't figure out ow the book get 0.6P. This is how it read

Kathy buys a bike for $ 240 after 40% mark down. What was the original price?

I know the Sale price= original price - % * original price
the book puts it like that

P-Px0.4 = 240
0.6P = 240 THIS IS WHAT I DON'T GET .
P=240/6 = 400

PLEASE let i tried everything and either i'm already tired or i don't know. Please let me know how do i get the 0.6 and if there is another way to get this.

Thank you as always for your help

Kathy buys a bike for $ 240 after 40% mark down. What was the original price?
----------------
After the price was reduce by 40%, it was $240. So, $240 is 60% of the original price (100% - 40%).
$240 = 60% --> $400 = 100%
The original price was $400.
-----------
To check, $400 - 40% = $400 - $160 which is $240.
