So the question is to find how many people is 1/8 of 288. We work with fractions all the time and just don't realize it. If you go to the store and the shirt you want is 1/2 off, how do you determine the price? You divide the price by 2 (or multiply by 1/2). We want to use the same idea here. We need to either divide 288 by 8, or multiply it by 1/8.
