3/5 * d - 38 = 1/8 * d
subtract 1/8 * d from both sides of equation:
3/5 * d - 1/8 * d - 38 = 0
add 38 to both sides of equation:
3/5 * d - 1/8 * d = 38
3/5 = 24/40
1/8 = 5/40
equation becomes:
24/40 * d - 5/40*d = 38
simplify:
d*(24-5)/40 = 38
19*d/40 = 38
multiply both sides of equation by 40
19*d = 40*38
divide both sides of equation by 19
d = 40*38/19 = 40*2 = 80
