he length of a certain rectangle is 4 cm longer than its width. if the width were increased by 6cm and the length were doubled, the new perimter would be twice the perimter of the original rectangle. find the dimensions of the orginal rectangle.
;
Let x = the width of the original rectangle
Then
(x+4) = the length of the original rectangle
and
(x+6) = width of new rectangle
and
2(x+4) = length of new rectangle
:
New perimeter = twice old perimeter
2(2(x+4) + 2(x+6) = 2(2(x+4) + 2x)
4x + 16 + 2x + 12 = 4x + 16 + 4x
6x + 28 = 8x + 16
