Question 148863: Fax paper costs $17.00 per case and copier paper costs $11.00 per case. If an order is recieved for a total of 250 cases for $3,659.00 what is the excat number of cases of copier paper?
Answer by mangopeeler07(462)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x=# fax paper cases
y=# copier paper cases
coefficient-cost in dollars

17x+11y=3659
x+y=250

Solve for x
x=250-y

Plug it in the first equation
17(250-y)+11y=3659

Distribute
4250-17y+11y=3659

Combine like terms
4250-6y=3659

Subtract 4250 from both sides
-6y=-591

Divide both sides by -6
y=98.5

Plug in y in the first equation
17x+11(98.5)=3659
17x+1083.5=3659

17x=2575.5
x=151.5
x+y=250
151.5+98.5=250

Yes, it's true. (thank goodness)

So there were
151.5 copier paper cases and
98.5 fax paper cases.
