Question 135323: walking to the store,you are 1/4 of the way, when you pass a clock that says 7:30. At 7:34 you are 1/3 to store. What time will you arrive at the store.
Answer by ptaylor(2198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance(d) equals Rate(r) times Time(t) or d=rt; r=d/t and t=d/r
Let t=time it takes in minutes to go from the 7:34 clock to the store (or 2/3 the distance to the store)
In 4 minutes (7:34-7:30) you walk a distance of 1/3 -1/4 of the way to the store or 4/12-3/12 =1/12 of the way to the store. You are walking at the rate of (1/12)/4 or 1/48 dist to store per min (this means that in 48 min, you can walk the entire distance. Or you can walk a third of the distance in 16 min))
At the 7:34 clock, you have (1 - 1/3) or 2/3 or 8/12 or 32/48 of the way to the store left to walk, so:
t=d/r=(32/48)/(1/48)=32 min
So, 7:34 + 32 min= 8:06
