First equation is

or

    9R = 10J.    (1')


Second equation is

    R - J = 36.    (2)


From the second equation, express  R = J + 36 and substitute into equation (1')

    9*(J+36) = 10J.


Simplify and find J

    9J + 9*36 = 10J

    J = 9*36 = 324.


Thus,  Joshua has 324 dollars.   Ray has 36 dollars more, or 360 dollars.
