we need two points from give graph that lie on a line
(,) and (,)

equation of a line is:

where is a slope, and is y-intercept

since (,) is y-intercept =>

now we need to find a slope using two points above
)
your equation of a line is:

Pick any two points from the line which are easily readable on the graph.
How about these two: (-5,2) and (5,6).
Slope ; and actually you can easily also read the line's y-intercept, so to use slope-intercept form: .

That's actually using three points. Two for the slope and one more because it is y-axis intercept. You COULD use JUST TWO POINTS and go direct from point-slope form.

Start at any point on the blue line.
It's best to start with a point that has x and y coordinates that are both integers.

I'll start at (-5,2)

The goal is to move from there to another integer point on this same blue line.
Let's say we go from (-5,2) to (0,4)
We could use the slope formula to compute the slope, as the other tutors have done.

Or we could follow the motion of "up 2, right 5"
rise = 2
run = 5
m = slope = rise/run = 2/5

In short, m = 2/5 is the slope.
This fraction cannot be reduced further.

The y intercept is b = 4 since this is where the blue line touches the vertical y axis.

Plug those values into y = mx+b to get the final answer y = (2/5)x+4
This would be the same as writing or

Side note: 2/5 = 0.4
