The population of North Carolina is the sum of its urban population and its rural population.
Its urban population in 2000 was approximately 4.8 million, which was 60% of its total population.
Based on this approximation, what was the rural population of North Carolina, in millions, in 2000?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let the total population be x millions.
Then from the problem, we have this equation to determine x
    0.6x = 4.8  millions.
It implies  x =  =  = 8.
Thus the total population is 8 millions.
Then the rural population is  8 - 4.8 = 3.2  millions.    ANSWER
