Each post has a square base that measures 1 1/4 inches.
Find the distance between each pair of posts.

Free space between the end posts before inserting five posts is  22 3/4 inches.


Free space between the end posts AFTER  inserting five posts is  22 3/4 MINUS 5 times 1 1/4 inches, or

     =  inches.


After inserting five posts, it will be 6 gaps between end posts, and each gap will be   : 6 =  inches.


ANSWER.  The distance between each pair of neighbor posts will be  =   inches.
