Quantity Baked amt. sold amt. remain

Walnut d+72 (1/3)(d+72)

Cashew d+48 (1/4)(d+48)

Almond d (1/2)d

TOTAL 140

Do you understand how that data was formed and what next to do with it and finish?

Answer by Octo-pie7(11)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let number of almond cookies = x
then cashew nut cookies = (x + 48)
walnut cookies = (x + 72)
Total number of cookies = x + x + 48 + x + 72 = 3x + 120
Again walnut cookies sold = 2/3(x + 72)
cashew nut cookies sold = 3/4(x + 48)
almond cookies sold = x/2
Total cookies sold = x/2 + 2/3(x + 72) + 3/4(x + 48) = x/2 + 2x/3 + 48 + 3x/4 + 36 = 23x/12 + 84
Now as per question,
3x + 120 - (23x/12 + 84) = 140
or, 3x - 23x/12 + 120 - 84 = 140
or, 13x/12 = 140 - 36 = 104
or, x = 104 × 12/13 = 96
Number of walnut cookies Mrs Thomas baked=96+72=168

She baked 24 more walnut cookies than cashew nut cookies.
She baked 48 more cashew nut cookies than almond cookies

How many walnut cookies did Mrs Thomas bake?
Let number of walnut be W
Then number of cashew = W - 24
Number of almond: W - 24 - 48 = W - 72

After selling of the walnut, she had , or left
After selling ¾ of the cashew, she had ¼ * (W - 24) = left
After selling ½ of the almond, she had ½ * (W - 72), or ½W - 36 left

We then get:
                   4W + 3W + 6W = 12(182) -------- Multiplying by LCD, 12
                            13W = 12(182)
