Question 1184393: A plumber has 2 1/4 metre length of copper piping. a)He uses 2/3 of it for a job. what length of pipe is left? b)He uses 1/8 of a metre from the pipe left for another job, how much of the original is left? c)For the final job, he cuts the remaining piece of pipe in half. What length are these pieces?

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
length of the pipe is 2 + 1/4 meters = 9/4 meters.
he uses 2/3 of that.
he has 1.3 of that left = 1/3 * 9/4 = 9/12.
he uses 1/8 of that.
he has 7/8 of that left = (7 * 9) / (12 * 8) = 7/8 * 9/12 = 7/8 * 3/4 = 21/32.
he cuts that in half to get 21/64 meters length for each of the remaining pieces.
that's your solution, if i did this correctly.
i did doublecheck with a calculator and it looks good.
