 Geoff's allowance is 7x, and Ken's is 11x.
If Ken gives 84 dollars to Geoff then Geoff has 7x+84 and Ken has 11x-84.  If these are then described as same amount of money, then   7x+84=11x-84 and you  can do what remains.
