elena gets 3/4 * 1/2 = 3/8 of the box.

rene keeps 1/2 of the box.
john keeps 1/8 of the box.
elena gets 3/8 of the box.

1/2 + 1/8 + 3/8 = 4/8 + 1/8 + 3/8 = 8/8 = 1.
