Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x is the number of pineapples bought.
1/5 * x are spoiled.
4/5 * x are left.
out of the 4/5 * x that are left, 1/4 * 4/5 * x = 4/20 * x are donated.
4/5 * x minus 4/20 * x = 16/20 * x minus 4/20 * x = 12/20 * x are sold.
12/20 * x are sold at .70 each for a total revenue of .42 * x
total revenue is 1470, therefore .42 * x = 1470.
solve for x to get x = 1470 / .42 = 3500.
total cost = .35 * x = .35 * 3500 = 1225.
total revenue is 1470 and total cost is 1225.
total profit is 1470 minus 1225 = 245.
-----------------------------
to see if this makes sense, we go back to the original problem with the number of pineapples being bought equal to 3500.
total cost is .35 * 3500 = 1225.
1/5 are spoiled.
this leave 3500 - 1/5 * 3500 = 2800 that are not spoiled.
1/4 of those are donated.
1/4 * 2800 = 700
that leaves 2800 minus 700 = 2100 that are sold.
they are sold at .70 each for a total revenue of .70 * 2100 = 1470.
------------------------------
number look good.
answer to your questions are shown below.
------------------------------
Q1)fraction of pineapples donated from the whole stock?
whole stock was 3500.
700 were donated.
700/3500 = 7/35 = 1/5 of the whole stock were donated.

Q2)fraction of pineapples sold from the whole stock?
2100 were sold.
2100/3500 = 21/35 = 3/5 of the whole stock were sold.

Q3)if by bringing pineapples each Rs.70 he obtained a total of Rs.1470 ,how many pineapples did he bring?
he bought 3500.
he sold 2100
not sure what you mean by how many pineapple did he bring.
if you mean how many were sold, then 2100.
if you mean how many were bought, then 3500.

Q4)what profit did he obtain from the above business?
