Question 1128639: When opened, air freshener A has a mass of 48 grams but its mass decreases by 3.8 grams each day. When opened, air freshener B has a mass of 48 grams but its mass decreases by 3.8% each day.
A)Write a function f that determines the mass of air freshener A (in grams) in terms of the number of days t since it was opened.
B)Write a function g that determines the mass of air freshener b (in grams) in terms of the number of days t since it was opened.
C)Which of the following are true relative to this context? Select all that apply.
1)It takes longer for air freshener A to reach a mass of 24 grams than air freshener B.
2)5 days after being opened, air freshener A will have a larger mass than air freshener B.
3)Air freshener B will eventually have a mass of 0 grams.
4)Air freshener A will eventually have a mass of 0 grams.

Air freshener A loses 3.8g of its weight each day.
Air freshener B loses 3.8% of its weight each day. With a starting mass of 48g, that is less than 2g the first day, which is less than A loses the first day; and each day after that it loses less than the previous day. So the remaining mass of B will always be greater than the remaining mass of A.
A.
B.
A graph; A(t) red; B(t) green....
C.
1 and 2 are clearly false; B always has a mass greater than A.
4 is true.
Mathematically, 3 is false. Realistically, however, the last molecule of B will eventually break apart (or whatever it does), and the mass of B WILL reach 0.
So, mathematically, the answer for C is #4.
