Question 1119807: In a basket full of balls, 60% are mangoes and remaining 40% are apple. 25% of apples are green and the rest 75% are red. Of the mangoes, 80% are red and the rest of the mangoes are green, What percentage of the green fruits are mangoes?
My method consisted of finding the percentage of green apples and green apples in relation to the whole basket and adding the percentages together. Then dividing the percentage of the green mangoes by the total percentage of green fruits.
The answer I got was 54.45%, which was WRONG. I'm not sure how to move forward.

60% of the balls are mango. Of the mangoes, 80% are red and 20% are green; so the percentage of red mangoes in the basket is 80% of 60% = 48%; the percentage of green mangoes is 20% of 60% = 12%.

40% of the balls are apple. Of the apples, 25% are green and 75% are red; so the percentage of green apples in the basket is 25% of 40% = 10%; the percentage of red apples is 75% of 40% = 30%.

So the percentage of green mangoes in the basket is 12%; the percentage of green fruits in the basket is 10%+12% = 22%. The percentage of green fruits that are mangoes is 12/22 = 6/11 = 54.54%.

I can't be sure from you description exactly what calculations you made; but it appears you have the right answer.

Let X be the total number of fruits in the basket.


Then the number of green mangoes is 0.2*0.6*X.


The number of green fruits is  0.25*0.4*X + 0.2*0.6*X.


The percentage under the question is   = 54.54%.
