so you are saying that the old price was 4/5 of the new price, in other words, 4/5n. Correct?
And the new price is 4/5n+9 No?
So isolate the variable on the left side by dividing both sides by 4/5:
4/5*5/4n = 5/4*9
on the left 4/5 and 5/4 cancel each other out and you end up with:
n = 5/4*9 = (5*9)/4 = 45/4 = 11 1/4 or 11.25
