I don't understand ratios. How do you figure out just by knowing the 2 to 14 ratio. Found 2 solutions by stanbon, ewatrrr:Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website! In a museum, the ratio of adults to children is
2 to 14. If there are 320 people in the museum, how many children are there?
I don't understand ratios. How do you figure out just by knowing the 2 to 14 ratio.
adults = 2x
children = 14x
----
Equation:
2x + 14x = 320
16x = 320
x = 20
------
adults = 2x = 2*20 = 40
children = 14x = 14*20 = 280

Hi
Let x represent the constant of proportionality: adults 2x, children 14x
2x + 14x = 320
16x = 320
x = 20
Children: 2x = 2(20) = 40 children
Checking:
14x adults = 280
280 + 40 = 320 CHECKS!
