Question 1033511: A designer enlarged both the length and the width of a rectangular carpet by 60 percent. The new carpet was too large so the designer was asked to reduce its length and its width by 25 percent. By what percent was the area of the final item greater than the area of the original?
Answer by jorel555(1290) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If the designer enlarged the length and width of the carpet by 60% first, then the carpet has been expanded by 1.6 times its original specs. If he now REDUCES the carpet, its now 75% (100-25%)of its expanded size, or:
1.6 x .75 or 1.2 times its original size, a calculation reflecting that the carpet is now 20% longer and wider than originally!!!!!!
